Although the past is long gone that doesn’t stop authors from reinterpreting it or reinventing it by adding their own little spin on historical facts and turning it into exciting historical fiction novels.

Lisa Costantino is the author of Maiden’s Veil, a tail of both the past and the present. Deep Pagan rituals tie the two together, creating the last thing the characters were expecting. Maiden’s Veil won the 2013 Best Indie Historical Fiction Award.

Julian David Stone

For years Julian David Stone is a well-known writer and director in the theatre world. He brought that experience to the indie historical fiction world with his award winning book, The Strange Birth, Short Life, and Sudden Death of Justice Girl. The book won the 2014 Next Generation Indie Book Awards Historical Fiction Section.  It has also made Amazon’s Book of The Month list.

Anna Belfrage

Anna Belfrage is the author of a series of books that feature a character who is thrown back in time and has to experience life as only the history books could have prepared her for.  The sixth book in her series, Revenge and Retribution, won the Historical Novel Society Indie Book of The Year 2015.  What makes Anna’s books great is that she does her research before and during writing.

With over ten well-written books to her name Theresa Tomlinson is an experienced writer, but she remains independent.  Her book, The Tribute Bride, made the shortlist for the HNS Indie Book of The Year 2015.  She draws her inspiration from both history and mythology.

Cheryl Head

With the idea of connecting people, Cheryl Head writes historical fiction and independently publishes it.  Currently, Cheryl has two books to her name, I’m Dead and Long Way Home: A World War II Novel. Long Way Home was a finalist in the Historical Fiction category of the 2015 Indie Book Awards.  A third book is on its way.  Cheryl also works to promote female and gender equality with her books.

Marschel Paul

Marschel is the author of The Spirit Room, a book that explores the life of two sisters in the late 1850’s.  With true psychic talent and hoaxes the book is sure to keep you turning pages.  It was also shortlisted for the HNS Indie Award 2015.  Marschel has a strong focus on women’s history and this inspired her story The Spirit Room.  She performed extensive research and went with the flow as her novel changed from being heavily focused on her idol Victoria Woodhull, to having two completely different characters.

R. V. Doon

In The War Nurse R. V. Doon brings alive the story of a woman who suffers through a POW camp and more as a nurse.  The War Nurse has been a finalist in for multiple indie awards in 2015.  It has managed to get to these lists, not just because of R.V. Doon’s writing talent, but because she uses research and some of her own experience to create a truly believable tale.  R. V. Doon has three thrillers and three, what she refers to as, Cozy series.

Elisabeth Marrion

Elisabeth Marrion is a German author who has spent time all around the world and draws on this knowledge to write amazing pieces of writing.  Her story Liverpool Connection made the short list for the HNS Indie Award 2015 and was a semi-finalist for the M.M. Bennetts Award.  Her first book, The Night I Danced with Rommel was a Finalist Medal Winner for the 2014 Wishing Shelf Independent Book Awards.

Nanette L. Avery

Nanette does more than just write about history, she immerses herself in it.  For her first book, Orphan America, she spent years learning what it was like to live in the 19th century.  Orphan America made Kirkus’s Best Indie Books of 2014 list.  Nanette is the author of several other books including titles such as Sixty Jars In A Pioneer Town and Once Upon a Time Words.

David Ebsworth (McCall)
